Post  predator289 Tue Aug 23, 2011 7:36 am

Hey Everyone,

Over the past few weeks the staff and I have noticed a steady amount of griefing
happening ingame. Whether it is accidental or deliberate, it needs to stop.

Ultimately this effects you, the players, as it takes the staff away from game
play as we are consistently fixing, rebuilding, or repairing the Hogwarts
Castle, Surrounding Buildings, Main Towns and Features, and Environment.

This issue is slowing the creation of events, new buildings, classes, games,
etc, all because our time is taken up with map maintenance.

Griefing in any way is a bannable offence. Not only is it unfair to those who
do the right thing, but it in the long run is slowing down server progress and
annoying those players who want to be here and do the right thing.

We currently do have server protection, but it is currently being fixed for its
bugs. Sadly the protection will not stop people who are illegally hacking,
cheating, fly hacking, and abusing.

So, I'm suggesting a new system to help fight Hackers and Griefers
ingame, which will in time, see the removal of those players who think they can
come in and disrupt and damage the server. Also this will allow staff and players to keep making the server the best and most enjoyable server. Very Happy

1) No more Excuses

Griefing anything isn’t an accident.
There are only 4 things that break
instantly when punched (Flowers, Mushrooms, Pictures and Torches). Anything else
requires the deliberate and conscious holding of the ‘Block break’ (Left) mouse
button. Glass even has a 3 second break time. This means NOBODY should have any
reason to be breaking blocks. AT ALL! Breaking a block is not an accident. It
is willingly done, and is to stop. The worst we should be seeing is players ‘tapping’
the blocks. But complete breaking of blocks is just not on.

2) Reporting Players and Griefs

Players are no longer to be shouting ‘GRIEF’ or ‘SOMEONES GRIEFED THE COMMON
ROOM’.
It is nothing but ingame spam. It achieves nothing, and is just annoying to
listen to. If you notice a grief be sensible and mature. Is it single block
damage? Is it large area damage? Is it a whole room? The Staff need information! Not just random spamming. Providing staff with
information is the best way for players to help against the griefers ingame.

From now on if on your travels you notice any form of grief you are to report
it in the following manner to staff. It is not to be spammed or screamed in
chat.

PM Staff:

Use the /msg system ingame to
PRIVATE MESSAGE an online staff member directly.
(You MUST provide details in the message; they can be simple details such as what’s
missing)

OR

Ingame Staff Mail:

Should you not want
to spend time talking and discussing the grief you have found and move on
playing. Use the ingame mailing system to send an ONLINE Admin, Moderator, or
Operator an Inbox message. Should none be online, send a message to a staff
member you know and trust who’s offline. But ONLINE Admins, Moderators and
Operators must be messaged first!

To do this simply use /mail to pull up your ingame mail menu. You should have
options such as ‘read’ ‘clear’ and ‘send [to] [msg]’

To send a message to a staff member you do the following in chat! (Without the
brackets)

First press F3 ingame to bring up the maps details, locations and computers
usage meters.

You must include the X, Y, and Z co-ordinates in the following manner. e.g. (X=120,
Y=200, Z=60)
THIS IS A MUST! Seeing as you won’t be at the location and are moving on we
must be able to track the location of where you saw the griefs. Also only include the whole numbers, ignore the decimal points!

Official iSGC Policy: Griefing (RULES) Greif4

Then use the following chat command in your chat

/mail send [Players name your sending to] [Type your message here]

then press enter to send it off to the staff member. The staff will receive an
ingame mail to deal with it accordingly.

e.g.

/mail send predator289 ‘Hey pred found a small window grief X=200, Y=120, Z=40. Thx’

THAT’S IT! Your done, and it will be fixed when the staff can get round to
doing it.

Also only send it to one
person. DO NOT spam all staff members
online with the same messages, or it will be considered spamming. It will be
fixed when the staff member you chose gets time to look at it.

3) Staff Block Access:

Staff have ingame access to see the complete
history of any block ingame at anytime. We can EASILLY find out who placed or
removed a block, their name, the exact server time, and the exact date. Think you won’t get caught? You will be!

Official iSGC Policy: Griefing (RULES) Greif3

Official iSGC Policy: Griefing (RULES) Greif1

Also should you have an accident, please tell us straight away. We can easily come
and fix your accident, and we will not be harsh at all. Should you have a
decent reason...Accidents happen and we are more than happy for you to tell us.
We will be happy you actually told us so we can fix them up! But break it and
leave without telling someone, and we catch you... watch out!

Keep in mind that breaking a block to get through into a hidden room or tower
is not an accident, and you will be treated as a griefer. If you can’t easily gain
access to something without mining, digging or breaking blocks, then you SHOULDN'T be there.

Let this be the Last and Final warning to those considering Griefing. It stops
now!
Staff and Builders spend too much time building the ingame structures only to have them damaged and broken a few hours later. It isnt fair. It isnt acceptable.

Now lets all do our part to stop these people. Remember be sensible, be mature and contact staff properly without spamming. That way its less chaos, noise and the server will be more enjoyable for everyone to play on Smile

Attention Staff Only: Should no log show for the block area simply fix it and
move on. Any current griefs should show. Do not linger trying to find out who
did it, unless you have information.

-BUMP-

Every single player on Hogwarts RP Server MUST read this!

TO STAFF: Should players be spamming and discussing griefs ingame, please direct them to this thread on the Forums. It has been 'Announcement Stickied' and is easy to find.

Also for handling griefers in-game please use the following system to control banning and allow for players to discuss actions.

If a player who shows on your logs is Online /msg them privately and discuss the grief. If they are Offline please use the /mail system to issue them their ONE warning.

If it be a small grief (such as 1x Block or 3x Blocks): Players are to receive ONE warning first. (I would suggest keeping a pen and pad of names you have mailed/msg'd your warning to).

Should that player show up again after you have issued your First warning then you may choose to ban them or give them a temporary 2 day ban as cooldown should you be feeling generous. If they are not online it is your decision.

For large area griefs it is at your jurisdiction to decide on a fair punishment. You may ban should they become hostile. Or you may choose to give them a temporary 2 day ban as cooldown should you be feeling generous. If you are unsure of what should be done depending on the griefs size and intensity ask your fellow staff peers on their opinions.

REMEMBER: Please use fairness, maturity, be unbiased, and professional.

Also: 2 Day bans are preferred over complete bans, but not necessary. But should a player strike up arguments or disrespect staff it becomes your call on how long or how permanent the ban is.

Every ban must have screenshots showing the griefs, logs or conversations between staff and player. This allows those wanting to make appeals a form of evidence should they come back.
